August 10 • Giving in to What I Want to Want

Day 397 Not ten minutes ago, I experienced a collision of my efforts at total honesty with not forcing 'activities' or even choosing to participate in them. Asked by my wife whether it's a good day to have the kids over for supper, I reacted negatively and deflected with a comment about her need to always be filling time with something. My guilt for wanting a day off was immediate, and especially for choosing the 'things' I need to do over spending time with family. I love how my wife does the family thing and don't want to interfere with that, but my balance between honesty and selfishness and actual needs of time and tasks still needs a lot of work. –JR No, I'll never understand No, I'll never understand Why I'm such a selfish man Selfish man, selfish man, selfish man –Flogging Molly, ”Selfish Man"
